Calc Crashes on Insert Formula Data Select

Whenever I try to select cells for a chart in Calc it crashes hard, as in my whole computer goes down every time. Safe Mode doesn't help, deleting user profile, uninstalling and reinstalling do not help. It even crashed in safe mode. If this can't be fixed can someone recommend an alternative to LibreOffice? It's free, I know, but just too many problems anymore.

I'm using Libre Office Version: Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 3.8.8 4.15.0-29-generic Intel© Core™ i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz × 2 Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller

Test it's not an issue with OpenGL Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice\View

I turned off the hardware acceleration and anti-aliasing, restarted everything, and it still happens.

If I try to insert a chart and do the bit where I you choose the cells/data, it paralyzes my whole system and I have to pull the plug.

Pls test cleaning the user profile Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode.

Anyone have any ideas on this one? I've been using openoffice for over ten years but now I'm facing a switch that I don't want.
