Having trouble copying chart form calc to writer

Hi,

Having trouble copying a chart from calc to writer? It winds up being a blank outlined image in writer. None of the paste special commands seem to have any effect on the problem. Its still a blank outline. Draging and droping the chart works occasionally but not reliably and without reason. Not sure why it works sometimes. So I don’t seem to be able to accomplish this basic task. What can I try? Is this just an obvious bug? in Version 6.1? I am updated to latest stable version.

Have you tried? In Calc, left-click on the chart to select it, then right-click to get the dialogue box. Choose Export as Image. Give it a suitable name and store it in a convenient location. Then in Writer, put the cursor where you want the chart, use menu Insert → Image. Navigate to where you stored the chart and select it. OK.

That appears to work, it is frustrating that three options failed before that point. Makes me wonder if there is an installation problem with the program.

Much software that we take for granted is actually incredibly complex, and many actions that seem simple to us in one program simply can not work in another program because of differences in the way the programs handle the data. So, many commonly used options and actions have to be done in a different way, from one program to another. While “dragging and dropping” might seem like a logical method for all programs, the method I suggested to you was designed in LibreOffice to accomplish exactly what you wanted,
