Error 1316: installation

Error 1316: A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file.
LibreOffice_4.0.3_Win_x86.msi

Win 7 Professional

OP: @Johncatdaddy

LibreOffice needs to fix this problem big time. It still exists in the latest 4.0.4 version of LibreOffice and is linked to, of all damned things, renaming the installer from the name that LibreOffice gives it to something like LibreOffice 4.0.4.msi

Insanity that such a simple thing which breaks no other programs on Windows breaks LibreOffice when the time comes for an update.

There does not appear to be an open bug relating to this matter at present and I am not on a Windows system to confirm or report this behaviour. Could you please raise a bug about this matter so that it can be looked into? Please set the Severity to “Blocker” as this prevents installation. Provide a link to this thread and report the bug back here as “fdo#123456”. Thanks.

You do not give much in the way of details. Were you trying to install v4.0.3 or a different version? In any case the error results from a prior version not being properly uninstalled / de-registered within Windows. According to Microsoft this error can (or does) result from the same install using different MSI file names. Quote:

During the repair operation, Windows installer tries to change the name of the [second] MSI […] to the [first] one […]. Because Windows installer does not allow this, the repair operation fails with the error mentioned in the symptom section.

Refer this question for details and possible solutions. In particular refer to the answer by @manj_k as it provides the steps necessary to fix the issue. I am not sure what to do if you do not know which version was previously installed. There must be some way of extracting this information from the registry.

trying to install v4.0.3

I had several versions before this one.

I think I had uninstalled it, but don’t know if I did before.

I had a stroke and lost my Hearing, Can’t remember much, Can’t talk very well, I can type slowly, very slowly when I can remember. Can’t use my right arm and very little of right leg.

My very best wishes for your recovery. Please do not hesitate to ask here for further assistance / clarification if you continue to have problems with installing LibreOffice.

I found regedit and HKLM\Software\Classes\Installer\Products but all it said was LibreOffice 4.

I found MicrosoftFixit50471 and deleted it.

I will try again with LibreOffice_4.0.3_Win_x86

Nope, still Error 1316: A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file. LibreOffice_4.0.3_Win_x86.msi

I have updated my answer to be a bit clearer, however I am not sure how we are going to determine which version you previously had installed. Be sure to select the “Repair” option (if this is offered) when installing.

Did “Repair”

That’s not good then. It may be that the originally installed version was different. I will have a look through the Win7 registry and report back.
