where does LibreOffice put the backup files?

I had edited a file on Sunday, when I went to edit it again, the file AND file folder have disappeared from the disk! I really need that file back!

Usually in this path: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\backup

In File Explorer, you should share the “Hidden Items” via “View” to see these files.

I wish you success!

With me Windows 10, Version 1809, 64-Bit | LibreOffice, Version: 6.2.2.2 (x64).

Please note also that you may discover the path in Optionsâ–¸LibreOfficeâ–¸Paths.

Thanks! It appears to be lost then. Probably when I updated the program.

An update of the program LibreOffice will never destroy a user-file!

The files will disappear on update only if you erroneously saved them in some “system” directory. The Windows installer is known for wiping out all its “internal” directories (and this is perfectly legitimate).

So make sure you saved your files in some user directory, preferentially under “MyDocuments”. Don’t trust the default locations, all the more if you first launched the application from the task bar (in this case the default directory is usually set to app directory which will be erased on update).

A better (safer) way of opening existing documents is to double-click the icon. When you create a document (save it for the first time), check in the save dialog where the file will be stored and eventually change directory for a user location.
