I save a document as a docx and put it on a USB stick and take it elsewhere, open it and find I can't edit it.

It tells me it was locked for editing by the machine it came from so I'm thinking maybe this is not a Libre thing but maybe something to do with file permissions from MS Win10.

But when I check those permissions they seem okay to me - full permits for everyone just about.

Works out alright because it lets me open a copy which I can edit but it'd be better if I knew what was going on and could switch on/off this 'locked for editing' thing.

So is it a Libre thing and if so what can I do about it?

Going off the "locked for editing" bit, I would suggest checking for hidden files, and delete any lock files you find related to that document.
