File not updating styles

I follow the instructions to update the text body style in one document from another (my main one to which I am adding these sub-file chapters) as the font size in the sub-file is 11 and I want it to be 10. I also want the other styles in my main document to come in and change those used. nothing happens in View - Styles - Load Styles (from file). The text body remains at 11pt.

1. Make sure to tick Overwrite in the import dialog.
2. Make sure to clear all adhoc formatting.

I have ticked ‘overwrite’ and ’text’.

‘adhoc formatting’? Do you mean ‘Direct Formatting’ under ‘Format’? If so I have a some text I have changed on the go without creating individual styles. Will that be reverted (which I don’t want)?

Yes, I mean direct formatting. Unless you clear it, you won’t see if imported styles have any effect. If you want to keep it, convert to styles as possible.
