Insert Picture via URL on Mac?

A great feature in MS Powerpoint is the ability to insert a picture via it’s URL. While one can copy and paste directly into Impress on the Mac with keyboard or edit menus (when it works), sometimes folks send me a URL of an image they have prepared for me.

Instead of loading up Safari on the Mac, going to URL, and copying, is there a hidden way to do “insert Image” on the Mac but have it let me paste the URL? Or is there some other workaround? The dialog boxes do not appear to have a “filename” box like Windows does in MS Powerpoint.

And if you have a good trick for Impress, would it work for Writer as well?

Not that I can see. Under GNU/Linux there is an option to Type a file name which allows URL entry:

Type a file name

This option does not appear to be available under MacOS. I can’t see any related open bug for Presentation+link so I suggest you file an enhancement bug and provide as much information as possible. Link to this thread if necessary and don’t forget to mark your bug as an ‘enhancement’. The QA team will be happy to help you triage your feature request in the bugtracker.

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!
