Typing a date in Calc

I am new at LibreOffice. But I want to use LibreOffice (and not Office (Excel) anymore) !!
But when I typed a date in Excel, I typed f.e. 12-3 and in a cell from Excel there came 12 march 2019.
I can not get that in LibreOffice !!???
Why not?
Why can I not type just day and month, and then LibreOffice gets the full date in the cell ??
Can you please help me with this?

Format the cell before: In Format / Cells / Date and select the format you want. The typing and 12/3 the year he considers the current.

It depends on the locale you work in (which?) and what date separator that locale uses, and related on the active date acceptance patterns. See Tools → Options → Language Settings → Languages. If your locale uses a different date separator than - and you want to be able to use the - nevertheless to enter an abbreviated date then add D-M to the Date acceptance patterns, separated with a semicolon. For example if your locale’s default patterns are D/M/Y;D/M that would be D/M/Y;D/M;D-M

Go to Tools>Options>Language settings>>Date acceptance patterns.

Append ;D-M there and delete patterns that might possibly be in conflict.

For the display of dates you should use YYYY-MM-DD wherever possible. That’s a matter of the number format you set for the cell now.

Don’t mix up the so-called recognition and formatting.

Okay! I have to type 12/3 (instead of 12-3), and then the year comes with it.
Thank you for your answer !!
