Have you checked at LibreOffice -> Preferences -> LibreOffice -> Advanced whether your Java installation has been recognized by LibreOffice ?

Under the section java options. the box is checked for java runtime env installed. the button is selected for the oracle corp under vendor version 12.01. the "location: /library/java/javavirtualmicahine/jdk-12.0.1.jdk/contents/home.

I was able to figure out the issue. I compared the versions of java on my xubuntu VM with the version on my mac and on the linux VM i had Java jdk 11.0.3. I logged into my oracle account and downloaded the jdk 11.0.3 and installed. update the the advacne tab to select the 11.0.3 version. exited and restarted my mac. opened base and it now works like a champ just like my linux VM. so the java jdk 12.0.1 is the issue. Thanks for you time.
