my document has gone into non edit mode- how can I undo that?

I was typing up a report in a table format but now every time I click on a part of the text it highlights the entire text outline, as it would do with an image. I cannot seem to make any changes to it apart from add borders etc

(Edit 2019-06-04) I use Windows 10 and LO 5. Thanks

Which OS and LO-Version do you use? In what file format did you save?

Deleted no answer.

The file is saved as .odt or doc(x)?

Click Edit > Edit Mode or press Ctrl+Shift+M to toggle edit mode

LeroyG is correct, you can’t add borders when you are not in Edit Mode. My mistake, sorry.

So instead click Table > Unprotect Cells. You can add an outside border to protected cells.

You can’t “add borders” when not in Edit Mode.

But if cells are protected, when “you click on a part of the text” it not “highlights the entire text outline”.

In a protected cell, if you click on text then the cursor is entered, double-clicking to select a word does not select anything. Triple-clicking selects the entire sentence which is frequently the entire contents of the cell. Quadruple-clicking selects the paragraph as expected but in this case it can be difficult to know whether you are triple or quadruple clicking. OP did say “entire text outline” not cell contents (everything inside cell border).

Simplicity suggests the table cells are protected. It is all academic of course as OP has moved on now but might help someone in a similar predicament.

@EarnestAl,
Before my first comment, I thought the cells could be protected, mis/interpreting click as being one, and text outline as the cell border, and dismissed the idea.

We will have to wait for @SalZ to return. :slight_smile: Regards.
