Changing from PDF to normal LO text document for editing

In the past I used LO to create a document which I then exported as PDF. Now I want to edit that document. I opened it with LO but it's in a format not so useful to me. How do I open my PDF so I can edit in in standard LO document format, then, after the editing's done, export it as PDF?

PDF files are opened in Draw. The PDF does not have the original format like an ODT file. You can edit individual blocks.

If you create a file in Writer, you should save it as an ODT file. Then export a PDF. You should always keep both files. So you can later edit the ODT and export a PDF again.

One addition: It is possible to create a "Hybrid-PDF" (using "Export as PDF .." which embeds the ODF File to the PDF). But I prefer your suggested solution, to have both formats in separate files.

My thanks to both of you for the way to properly create, save and later edit a PDF document.

I use Linux, not Windows not Apple. I have several Linux apps to open and view PDFs. Of the 4 or 5 that I have, only one of them lets me select all the text, copy to the clipboard and then paste all of that text into a new LO writer form. Then after my editing's done, I'll first save as ODT and then export as PDF. As things stand now, I have to use my newly found method but will do in the future what you instructed me to do with PDFs. Thanks

Please excuse my question not directly related to the original question. @music-music, what Linux application will let you copy text from a .pdf file?

@dougmn I can do this using Atril Document Viewer in Ubuntu 18.04 Mate. Can actually copy then paste directly into Writer - text.
