editing words?

this is pretty much my first time using a writing software so i don’t really know what i’m doing.

when i need to go back and re-write a line or change a word, i click where i’m going to start but as soon as i start writing, it does this weird thing where it starts to erase the entire sentence letter by letter.

example: the cow jumped over the moon.
if i just wanted to edit “cow” it would start to erase “jumped” and keep going until “jumped over the moon” was completely re-done and i’d have to write the entire sentence over again. i just want to be able to edit a word and then get back to where i was. please help.

Your keyboard is probably in Overwrite mode; if so there will be an indication on your status bar at the bottom of your Writer window, slightly right of center. Click on the word Overwrite, or press your Insert key once and see if that makes a difference.
