Strange File Suddenly Appears After Saving

I’ve looked through other posts mentioning this problem but they all seem to be Windows users. I’m using a Mac. The issue is… a file that suddenly appears when I save a LibreOffice document. I ran a full virus scan but it didn’t detect any. The file that appears is “.~lock.2011Books.ods#” the info after .~lock is my filename and I understand the extension is LO’s. Any idea what this is and how to prevent it? Thanks

Hello,

Please see answers in this post → How do I prevent these lock files from being created/deleted?

Thank you for the link which I have now read many times. Have to admit to some confusion. This file has never appeared before and I’ve been using LO for years. If I have this correct it’s purpose is to prevent someone else from editing my file. So does that mean someone is trying to? And if that is the case (which I sincerely hope is not as this is just a Mac in a house) is there some way to prevent this? Again thanks for your help.

You have most likely just not noticed it before.

Of this I’m certain, it appears so prominently I couldn’t help but notice it. So is it benign?

it is benign. It is designed so that in an Office environment only the person who opens it first can make changes for everyone else it will be read only.

That’s a relief, thanks everyone!
