To create a simple table, which LibreOffice component would I use?

I have not decided to acquire LibreOffice yet but I am a computer dummy wanting to create simple tables, just like I do with a ballpen and ruler, but of course with a digital version I could do a lot more things, like change it, email it, store it in a password-protected folder, etc, etc.

For a table, it does not necessarily apply to the border (as with pencil, ruler, paper). You can create a simple spreadsheet in Writer. But there is only a very limited possibility for calculation. If you like working with spreadsheets and want to do calculations, it is definitely recommended to work with LibreOffice Calc. A Calc table can also be inserted later in Writer.
