I want to set a video to play in the background automatically while some text shows on the foreground. I can set the video to be in the background but when I start the presentation the video always appears on the foreground and I can’t see the text.
If I make a GIF file with the video it works as expected, however the gif is too large and Libreoffice Impress (and my laptop) can’t handle it really well. I’ve tried compression already, it’s a no go.

I think that is the function of a presentation program.
I have tested it, and think there is no way in Impress to implement your idea.
You should try to insert the text already in the video program.
I find it weird that I can play a gif in the background but not a video… Anyway thanks for your confirmation!
I have learned to go online and convert my mp4 into a gif due to the problem you stated above. It would be great if this limitation could be fixed.
