Easier way to input page numbers/relevant chapter at top of each page?

Hi all, I want page numbers and chapter info to coexist at the top of each page in a book I am making using Writer, I have attached an example of a book to illustrate this:

However the method I am currently using to do this is rather inconvenient; I am simply entering the page number and contents on the same line in the header, then manually adding spaces until the two are at opposing ends of the page horizontally.
This is a pain and is surely not the best way to do this…

Did you try the tab key?

The “standard” paragraph style for header is Header (or Header Left and Header Right if you need different formatting). You just customise it to achieve your expected formatting.

As shipped, Header already has 2 tab stops:

  • one in the middle as centered aligned
  • one at right as right aligned

Consequently, you insert the page number field at the beginning of the paragraph, a tab character, the book title, a tab character and the chapter field. This is an example and you can fancy as many variations as you like.
