Anyone here heard of OfficeNow distributed by Onsoft Interactive?

I found OfficeNow installed on a customer’s computer. The help link gives credit to LibreOffice. I tracked the program down to their website but the LibreOffice organization is not allowing me to post the URL here.

I have not found anything bad about it but I have not been able to find much of any information on it at all. Just looks fishy to me.

I presume you are referring to this: Registrant WHOIS contact information verification | Namecheap.com It appears to use the Adobe AIR installer.

The best that I can tell, the company is packaging Libre Office inside an installer that adds PUP’s. While this may be legal (maybe not), it can hurt the reputation of Libre Office as users get malware and PUP’s along with Libre Office (guilt by association).

I am removing it from this customer’s computer and installing Libre Office fresh.

I agree. The list of Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) appears to include: Internet Helper Toolbar, Anti-phising Domain Advisor, DefaultTab, and PC Speed Maximizer. Source: Registrant WHOIS contact information verification | Namecheap.com

The problem may appear if the end-user has changed some settings. If you completely remove old-version of office and install LibreOffice it may happen that some settings may be lost and you (or end user) will need to set it back.
