In the last week - I lost my ability to print from LibreOffice

asked 2019-07-18 00:21:23 +0100

Running Windows 7 64Bit...

This has worked for as long as I can remember - but about a week ago, it suddenly started giving me issues. When I try to print via File>Print or the tool bar button, LibreOffice freezes - and I have to "End Task" it to continue (then recover whatever document / spreadsheet I had open). I have restarted my PC - and still have the same issues. Installed 6.2.4 and 6.2.5 - still same issue. Strange thing is - I CAN do a Print Preview - but - even from that screen, if I try to print, it fails and freezes LibreOffice. I have tried several different documents / spreadsheets - same results. HOWEVER - I CAN print a test page to both of my printers - AND - I CAN print from other Windows applications - WordPad, Chrome and other browsers, NotePad, Printer Test Page, etc - it only seems to be LibreOffice that is the problem.

I checked to be sure that my Temp folder exists, and there is plenty of free space on my hard drive where the Temp environment variable points to - and "CD %temp%" DOES change to a valid folder / path (I have had issues in the past printing, especially larger documents, when the temp folder was missing / invalid).

Anyway - the only thing I haven't done yet is uninstall / reinstall - I would like to avoid that if possible. Thank you in advance for any feedback and/or suggestions you mght have out there...thanks!

uninstall / reinstall is definitely not the first thing to do. Please try to start LibreOffice in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode (this should be possible since LibreOffice is able to run) and check whether printing is possible then. If yes - it is most likely that your user profile got corrupted and may give a reset a try.

There is an option to reset the user profile within the dialog you'll get if start LibreOffice in Safe Mode. For more details to safe mode please read this. Category 4 Reset to factory settings Option: "Reset entire user profile* is the one to choose (I'd recommend to "Archive User Profile` in section Advanced before you reset your user profile.

To test printer working just click button "Continue in Save Mode". Run a second time, if Safe Mode allows to print and perform the Reset to factory settings

Exit LO and look for your config file https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/U... that link should provide where is is located on your system. Navigate to the file system to the config location . rename the LO config by adding "-OLD" sans quotes. Then restart LO and see if you can print. Rebuild the config from scratch this way can solve may problems with LO.

Bear in mind this config file will be as if you started LO for the first time.

Thank you for your quick reply!

I will give your suggestion a try ASAP - if it works - how do I "reset" the user profile (or whatever reset you are referring to)? Sorry - if I should know what you are talking about...but I will update this as soon as I give safe mode a try...thanks!
