Stretching hyphens or graphic symbols

When using hyphens in a calligraphic document, as in text in liturgical music, hyphens or symbols need to be stretched. Is this possible?

Epal.

Format → Character → Position → Scale width, and set it more than 100%. If you need it repeatedly, create character styles as necessary.

Not automatically: you need to insert the characters for longer hyphen/dashes by hand. Some of those characters can be inserted with the autocorrect function, others not (at least, not by default), but you can always use the Unicode Code toggle shortcut Alt X: for example, type U+2e3b and press Alt X to get a three em dash line.

− figure dash U+2212 (in Writer, type :-:)

– en dash U+2013 (in Writer, type :--:)

— em dash U+2014 (in Writer, type :---:)

⸺ two em dash U+2e3a

⸻ three em dash U+2e3b

That works only for dashes.

But hyphen was the only symbol given as an example by the Questioner. Are there really any others that need to be stretched?

From the original post:

hyphens or symbols need to be stretched.

The wording is a bit awkward, as hyphens are symbols too, but implies the asker needs a broader variety of characters. Note also the posting title.

You cannot change the width of an automatically inserted hyphen without changing the other characters around it, you need to do that on a case by case basis on top of a manually inserted hyphen so... maybe it's easier to just insert a long enough dash instead of tinkering with manual formatting and distorted characters. But of course, YMMV.
