Opening a document file within LibreOffice is no problem; the problem occurs when double clicking the file within Windows explorer.
Do you have previously used MS Office? Perhaps your Windows still tries to open the file in MS Office? Right-click the file and use ‘open with’ and choose LibreOffice. Check ‘always’ to make the choose permanent.
