when I open files made under MS powerpoint on my computer to be viewed and worked on under Libre Office, the format of the presentation changes, the different objects (text, pictures, etc) are displaced and several features are disabled or simply the don't show.

You did not mention your LibO version, the MS PowerPoint version and your OS. Thus, it is not yet possible to give you a specific answer.

However, enabling of real 100% compatibility to MS PP is a tricky thing because the target keeps moving. I observed that especially with pptx files there are problems. Bugs are reported. May I suggest you have a look at:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=libreoffice&list_id=322735

to see if there is already a temporal workaround listed.

Another annoying thing (in addition to ROSt52's suggestion) is fonts compatibility, which might has bitten you as well (although this is usually true for Writer documents). Just make sure you have all the fonts you use installed on both machines (or use the fonts you have).

@mahfiaz - thanks for adding your comment. I just hope our devs can spent some time on the Impress-PowerPoint issues.

@ROSt52 - I am mostly concerned about Writer, because I use Impress very seldom :)
