I'm not very technical, does libre work with windows? I have a new all in one pc touchscreen w8? if so can it be downloaded without much fuss and compatible to open most os sent via email?

looking for advice - is libre is easy to use for tech novice, please use plain language. I have a lenovo b540-41 all in one pc windows 8 - came without an office software. If not any suggestions just need something widely compatiable that is safe and easy to download. Many thanks Karen, Somerset :o)

Just download Libreoffice 4.0.4 and the help file for your language to your PC, install it and have fun. LO has no email client (like Outlook or Mail) but Thunderbird is a good free alternative from Mozilla.org.

Indeed you shouldn’t have any problems:

http://www.libreoffice.org/download

Download and install from there.

As for your second point - I’m not really clear what you’re asking. If you’re asking if you’ll be able to open most attachments (word files, excel files, etc…), yes no problem at all. If you are asking for a mail client (such as outlook) - horst is correct, no such thing in LibreOffice itself but lots of alternatives exist.

I also use thunderbird but here are other choices:

Hi @Karen1,

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “open[ing] most os sent via email,” but LibreOffice can open documents created in Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice, etc.

You can set LibreOffice to be the default handler for various filetypes (e.g. Word, Excel, etc…), and your computer should offer to open them up in LibreOffice if you click on them in your email client.

If you’re having problems with getting your email client to open documents using LibreOffice, please open a new question with your specific concerns. Please make sure to list your version of Windows (win8) and the particular email client you’re using.
