Generate list of consecutive numbers in Writer?

OSX Mojave 10.14, Writer 6.2.5.2.

Hi everyone, I have a table in writer containing numerous rows and I want to fill each row consecutively with numbers i.e. let’s say the table contains 100 rows, I want the numbers 1-100 listed consecutively, 1 per row, from top to bottom for the entire table.
How do I get Libreoffice to generate these numbers for me?

Thanks.

Define a paragraph style for a list, say Numbering 1 which you’ll associate with list style Numbering 1.

Select the (empty) column in which you want the numbers; apply paragraph style Numbering 1. You’re done.

By default, numbers in Numbering 1 are followed by a dot. If you don’t like this layout, customise list style Numbering 1.

Also note that you may want to remove tabs/spaces automatically inserted after the list numbers - which may interfere when you set column widths by content, or when you right/center-align them.

Alternative is using formulas: putting 1 into table’s A1; in A2, press F2 and enter =<A1>+1 (actually, simply starting a writer table’s cell with = automatically puts it into formula mode). Then you may select the whole cell (not the text in it!) and Ctrl+C, then select the whole rest of column and Ctrl+V.

The drawback (compared to using numbering as suggested by @ajlittoz) is that the formula isn’t copied automatically into newly inserted rows. OTOH, more flexibility in calculations is possible.

Possibly the main goal of this answer is to familiarize with the concept of calculations in Writer (and its tables).
