Pop up window says need more drive space. How do I allocate more disk space?

When I try to open my LO files, I get a pop up message that says the file is not in the locked format installed, or itneeds more drive space. The following is one of the messages I get:
The lock file could not be created for exclusive access by LibreOffice, due to missing permission to create a lock file on that file location or lack of free disk space.

How can I get the file to be created with permission or create a lock file on that file location or free up some disk space?

Could you please edit your tags since they are not readable and also let us know on which operating system and with which LO version you are working? You also might check the free capacity of the harddisk on your system and share this info with us.

The message doesn’t tell you that it needs more disk space. It tells you that disk space might be one of possible causes of a problem; have you ruled out the other possible reason (lack of permission)?

@mikekaganski , do you ask me? Then the answer would be ‘no I don’t rule out other possible reasons’ and lack of permission is not necessarily the other one. Although it is unlikely that disk space is the reason, it’s maybe the easiest thing to check. But there is no response from OP since 4 days. With no further input …

I asked OP.
