Is it possible to hide the row number on the far left column in a Calc spreadsheet? If yes, how can I achieve this?

Many thanks for your help.

There is a setting to hide row/column headers but not just rows.

From menu - Tools->Options.

Then under LibreOffice Calc-> View you will find on the right panel under the Window section the option.
