I can create a ‘bookmark’, but how do I find it in the user interface? I know I can create a link, but I want to be able to go to a bookmark manually from anywhere in quite a long document.
Use the Navigator (the compass small icon in the right side pane or F5). Expand the Bookmarks section and double-click on the target bookmark.
