I have a large document/book, with many paragraphs, and a space between each paragraph. When I end a page at the end of a paragraph, a blank line gets inserted at the top of the following page. I’d like for new paragraphs that fall on new pages to always start at the top of the page. Any quick way to rectify this? (It’s a work still in progress, so I’m continuously moving paragraphs and entire pages around).
Please indicate your operating system, LO version, and file format (ODT, DOC, etc.) A screenshot or example file would help illustrate what is occurring.
By default, LibreOffice keeps any space before properties that are set for a paragraph.
If you have defined paragraph styles using space before, you can use a compatibility setting to suppress space before at the top of a page.
In LibreOffice 4.1, the path to the setting is Tools | Options | LibreOffice Writer | Compatibility.
Uncheck the third setting, which is Add paragraph and table spacing at tops of pages (in current document).
Click the Use as Default button if you want to use the same compatibility settings in all new documents based on the default template, then click OK to confirm.
Are you actually adding empty lines there? Please don’t do this. Use paragraph styles instead, set spacing “Below paragraph” to something like 0,4 cm or so.
- Format | Styles and Formatting.
- Select Page Style tab.
- Right click somewhere in window and select New.
- Organizer tab - Name field type in some name e.g. ChapterPage
- Organizer tab - Next Style select Default Style.
- Page tab - Margins - Top: e.g. 10 cm and OK button.
- In document locate one page before next chapter page and make sure mouse cursor is clicked after last character in last line of that page.
- Insert | Manual Break | Page break - Style: ChapterPage and OK button.
Now new page break is made and next page style is using ChapterPage. But after this page is (so next next page) is using Default style (because of setting 5).

Can @mango’s request be done by setting Text Flow > Keep with next paragraph. This setting must be done @mango’s used paragraph style.
I my test, each paragraph which was not completed before the end of a page moved completely on to the next page top. If @mango uses a consistent paragraph style he/she needs only about 5 clicks and his entire document should be formated in the way. For new text he can just type and Writer takes care of the formatting for each page automatically.
I tested using paragraphs of only 2 lines and long as about half a page or even more.
