if I download LibreOffice can I transfer documents created in open office

I previously created and used “open office” on an older Mac. When transferring data to my new laptop, the open office docs were not transferred. If I download LibreOffice to use as my new office option, am I able to retrieve my previously created documents from “open office” ?

If (!!!) you created your documents using ODF (i.e. .odt, .ods, .odg, etc files) then you should not face any problems, but you did not tell anything about the formats you stored your files using (Apache) OpenOffice.

Neither did you tell us what method you used to transfer data to your new laptop. If your “open office” documents were stored in a common storage folder on your old computer, and if that folder was copied in its entirety to the laptop, then, as @anon73440385 has told you, they should be accessible if they are in the right format.

Sorry, but I really don’t know…I was just asking in general as I was deciding whether to continue with OpenOffice or change to LibreOffice on the new laptop. I am not very computer literate, therefore I used a Mac 3rd party vendor to do the data transfer. The Open Office “program/application” itself doesn’t appear to have been transferred but I will go back to the service provider that did the transfer for additional help. Thank you both !! (Docs were formatted as odt and ods, I had both text and spreadsheet docs saved but only to Open Office, not the cloud)
