Libre office fails to launch emal

I am using LibreOffice and Libre Office fails to launch my email client from File drop down menu.

Which operating system, are you using? (I’m asking since methods to invoke email client differ) and which email client are you using?

And you defined eMClient as your default email client in Windows?

I am using Google Chrome Version 77.0.3865.90 (Official Build) 64-bit(as FB and other social networking sites no longer support Internet Explorer) and my default email client is eMClient link below: link text and yes my default email client is eMclient.

Hello - could be a problem of MAPI support in your client. Check this site / and vendor of your email client for questions on MAPI and MAPI support. Could be that it won’t work, since LibreOffice can only deal with clients having MAPI support.

Is MAPI the same as IMAP? I have received a no. of error messages indicating a problem with MAPI. Also I do not see a link listed in your last comment the site. Unfortunately LibreOffice does not provide a way to upload the images of the MAPI error.

No - these are not related in any way. You can upload images using edit of your original question. “This site” means this site, where you just read this comment (i.e. type MAPI into the search field of ask.libreoffice.org)

Found two references regarding your MAPI Client and LibreOffice’s MAPI requirement:

  1. (Simple) MAPI Support fort eMClient see https://forum.emclient.com/emclient/topics/is-em-client-mapi-convertibel

  2. LibreOffice MAPI requirement - see comment of @mikekaganski in How do I set Default control for LibreOffice to Default to GMAIL, where there is stated: Simple MAPI (a subset of MAPI) is the protocol and API used by LibreOffice to communicate between LO and the mail client on Windows

This lets me conclude that it should work, since LO requires Simple MAPI (2.) and eMclient supports Simple MAPI (1).

Indeed - it works on my system (Windows 10 / 1903; eM client version 7.2.36775.0 and LibreOffice Version 6.2.7.1)

Please check that your email client is chosen as default email client on your system. It might be required to re-assign it as the default, even despite it’s already told to be the default by Windows, because there are a lot of places in system where the association is defined, and some of them could be broken, without Windows noticing, so it still reports it “default”. Possibly something like this link, or maybe eMClient might have own association check (like Thunderbird has).

The solution to this problem is to set eMclient as default for email. Now that Chrome is not supported and you have to use another browser the procedure is the same set your email client as default once you have the browser of choice installed.

thanks to all those who contributed to this solution.
