Excel 2011 is 32 bit and soon i will have to update my Mac’s OS to 64 bit catalina. I have alot of spreadsheets and docs so bulk conversion would be a blessing. thanks

yes, that’s possible. There is a wizard called Document Converter which is designed for that purpose. You call the wizard using File -> Wizards - Document Converter and allow to convert document types as per screenshot:
(May be on Mac OS X the path is slightly different)
