Copy/Paste clipboard issues LibreOffice Calc

So, i recently upgraded to 6.3.2.2 as the previous version was having the same issues and I was hoping for a fix.
Ubuntu 19.10 desktop
The copy past appears to be erratic. Sometimes when I select a square it copies it as a bitmap. Sometimes it copies it directly… Sometimes it fails to copy and pastes the previous selection.

Thoughts? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Mike

Please detail for every kind of copy the source (I guess 6.3) and destination.

Sounds like one of those clipboard destroyers (aka “manager”) again.

I have a similar issue in Libreoffice Writer. I have to copy some text twice to paste it somewhere else.

So basically its random. Copying one cell to another in Calc. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Its like the first copy I do sticks and instead of being text or a formula pastes a second time as a graphic.

I think this has something to do with Ubuntu 19.10 because I am experiencing similar problems, but in other programs more often. LibreOffice: from time to time.

I just upgraded to Pop!_OS 19.10 and have encountered this exact issue. I have to cut/copy once, then either undo the cut, or recopy the text a second time, and then it will show up as text instead of as a bitmap. I never had this problem on 19.04.

On top of this, when I try to undo the bitmap copy, LO crashes. Although its document recovery works, it doesn’t recover the “cut” text that gets lost as a bitmap, so there is potential for significant data loss for the unsuspecting user if it happens to be a large cut/paste operation.

I have the exact same problem with LO Version: 6.2.8.2 Still on Manjaro and Debian, both Gnome. Any one found a solution?

I’m seeing this too in LibreOffice Writer 6.3.2.2 on Ubuntu 19.10. The bug is annoying - I do lots of work in Writer and I copy and paste all the time, so this affects me a lot. I’d love to see it fixed.

Note that Ubuntu 19.10 includes Mutter 3.34, which has a new clipboard manager:

It seems like that could be related.

@Ljiljan, could you give an example of another app that’s experiencing copy/paste issues on Ubuntu?

Reported upstream in mutter: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/919

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1852183

I have this problem as well (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed):

Version: 6.3.3.2.0+ Build ID: 30(Build:2) CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 4.16; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;

Calc wants to paste as an image if copied using the icon on the toolbar or right click. edit - maybe 50% of the time.

Works okay if use Ctrl-C to copy.

Very frustrating as I am mouse oriented and use spreadsheets all day.

I have created Bug 129319 in Bugzilla. Lets hope to get a resolution.

I am confirming that this is an issue on many platforms, not just Ubuntu. In the last couple of months, I’ve installed Ubuntu, Fedora, PopOS, Elementary - all the latest versions and I have the same copy/paste issue described by OP with every platform. This is definitely a LibreOffice issue. It is very annoying as I use LibreOffice exclusively and copy/paste is a basic function that you’d expect to just work.

This has now infected the hard key combinations. CTRL-X and CTRL-C.

Version: 6.3.3.2.0+
Build ID: 30(Build:2)
CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-GB
Calc: threaded

all the latest versions and I have the same copy/paste issue described by OP with every platform. This is definitely a LibreOffice issue.

Likely a wrong conclusion. All these latest versions probably have one thing in common: they use a recent version of Mutter as compositor, with its new clipboard “manager”.

I have a similar problem in LO Writer. Both right-mouse cut/paste and CTRL+X/V recently began acting up. It cuts, but then it pastes something old. It works as it should some times, normally if I try again and again.

Never seen it before, and it only happens in LibreOffice, not in say Firefox.

LibreOffice 6.3.3.2 in vanilla Ubuntu 19.10. I have no idea what a compositor or Mutter is.

It does not happen only in LibreOffice but also a few other applications, maybe not Firefox. Some are mentioned in the corresponding bugs somewhere:
