I don't understand the Linguist extension

When I try using it, such as “Complete Wordlist (alphabetical)” on a civics textbook, it just freezes for a little while and then gives…a new, blank page… Highlighting a section gets identical results.

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong.

For clarity, I presume you are talking about this extension? Unfortunately there does not appear to be any developer contact information, which means it may be difficult to get attention for any reported bug. I have not used it this extension so am not familiar with the expected behaviour. What file format (ODT, DOC, DOCX) are you using? How large is you file? Have you run the command “List Non-recognized Words” as suggested?

Yes, that is the correct extension. It’s a 750K plaintext file from the Gutenberg Project. The “List Non-recognized Words” option behaves identically to the one I mentioned above.

There is a developer name, Finn Gruwier Larsen; he also has contact info on his (very quiet) github page. FWIW! Also - could you confirm which versions of both LibO and the plugin are being used? It looks like Linguist 1.5 => LibO 3.x, but Linguist 1.5.1 => LibO 4.x. Do your versions match?

@JustSomeGuy, if the file is TXT, try saving it as ODT first and then running the extension commands. It may be looking for XML in the source file which it cannot find. You can always save it back to TXT later. @dajare, you linked the LinkedIn page twice  His GitHub page is here.

@oweng - “…linked the LinkedIn page twice…” Doh! Thanks for catching that. I obviously needed more coffee!

I tried emailing the author, but so far, no response. However, testing different documents has made it appear that the answer is that the first few files I tried this extension on were simply tool large for it to parse.

Thank you once again, everyone.

I’m using LibreOffice 4.1.0.4 and Linguist 1.5.1

I didn’t see contact info on that second link, which appears identical to the first one for me. Thank you for trying to help me out, at aany rate.
