When I type the apostrophe key, a different symbol is substituted, namely the character: è
When I press the question mark key, I get: é
open square bracket key: ^^
closed square bracket key: ç
back slash key: à
all other keys appear to be working. How do I resolve this issue

With this kind of question, we generally need a lot more information. In particular here:

  • what is your operating system? Windows? some Linux distro? other?
  • what are your “international” settings normally? (what “region” or keyboard is your default)?
  • and, in this case, what kind of machine are you on?
  • and as ever, what version of LibreOffice are you using?

Immediately, this sounds to me like a laptop with the “pseudo-keypad” function enabled unawares. But given the limited range of keys that are affected … probably not that, either!

A little googling turns up some possibilites: like this for WIn7, or perhaps this for XP. What have your searches found?

i am using a dell inspiron 15r special edition 7520 with Windows 7. i am using LibreOffice Version: 4.1.0.4.
I am using English (UK) as far as language settings for LibreOffice and am using the Default Style of formatting. How do I check the region or my international settings

It’s got to be a keyboard layout switch of some kind. This helpful Mozilla support answer relates to Win7 and might point in the right direction.

Thank-you!!! The keyboard setting had been changed, somehow, to Canada Multilingual Standard.
