can libreoffice open Word 2008 files
I have Word 2008 files and understand that they are 32 bit? I now have a new (64 bit) iMac 2019. If I install Libreoffice, will it read these old files?

Hello,
bitness of your application got nothing to do with the format of your files. So the question is about the format you stored your files. In that sense the answer is: Yes you can read the old files regardless whether they have been created using an 32-bit or 64-bit application.

when using File ->Open
dialog.
Hope that helps.
