Help for Firebird in Base?

So LO switches to Firebird by default for Base…but no online help for it? I have blown a bunch of company time today trying to figure out the auto value stuff for the primary key.

Upshot: a useless setting for Firebird.

Solution: use HSQLDB instead.

Problem: it sounds like HSQLDB is on its way out as a database supported by LO.

Something seems odd. What am I missing?

LO 6.2.8.2 on Win7

Hello,

Current versions of LibreOffice are back to HSQLDB as the default.

If you search the help file for HSQLDB you will also get no results.

There are a number of issues remaining to be worked out to completely replace HSQLDB embedded (a very old version 1.8) with Firebird embedded.

Many of the issues remaining have a work around. Many are addressed as answers or links to answers on this site. Search Firebird.

Thank you, Ratslinger. Do you mean LibreOffice has given up on Firebird?

As far as I know, I’m using the most recent “Still” version, so you must be talking about the “Fresh” version (6.3.4.*, as I recall).

Can’t recall exactly when the default was changed back but yes I use the Fresh version from TDF.

Also do not believe that TDF has given up on Firebird. Still can be used, just not the default. Does require some adjusting to get all to work correctly.

Thank you again.

If it is likely that TDF still intends to deprecate HSQLDB in favor of Firebird, I’ll have to keep working at getting some of the Firebird stuff figured out. You see, I’ve been writing an entry-level high school course for LO and am in the process of going back through it, bringing it up to date with the current version. I originally wrote it in the pre-Firebird era so now I need to come up to speed…and it’s a problem if TDF is going to be back and forth on the supported and/or default database engines. (Not a complaint; just an observation.)

Cheers,
Mark
