Writer Auto Title

I’m wondering if there is a setting in Writer that I’ve missed. I used to use Word and if you started a document then selected some text and hit save the selected text would be the name of the save file. Does Writer have setting that makes it mimic that behaviour? Thanks

Afaik there is no such functionality natively implemented (maybe somewhere there is a macro for that)

One workaround would be to hit ctrl+C before Save to take a copy of selected content, then ctrl+V in the save dialog to paste the copied stuff into the name field before saving. Wouldn’t take long to adjust to, and it will also work in Word, should you ever be back to that.

Perhaps I’m stating the obvious. Then again, perhaps the obvious solution is so close at hand that you miss it. No offense intended, just thought I’d mention it.

I must say I have developed a distinct dislike towards the typical Word file name, where the first line or three is used as the default at first save. I recognize that used consciously (preselecting content for the name), the Word way is an efficient way to select a sensible name. Sadly, too many users seem to have been inconscious in that critical moment. (Working in a secondary school for 20+ years, I’ve had a number of users passing through.)

Thanks for the reply, I’ve been using the ctrl c & v as a workaround and you’re right it won’t take me long to adjust.

and it will also work in Word, should you ever be back to that.

That will never happen I’m done with word, long live Writer!
