Editing text (not graphics)

I finally managed to figure out how to draw a border around some text in LibreOffice Writer. This had the effect of changing the spacing of the text, however, and when I saved, exited, and reopened the document, the cursor is now a four-headed arrow – as if I’m locked into border- or table-adjusting mode. How do I return to regular text editing within this document?

I suspect that you created a frame. Frames are not just graphical borders around your text, but containers which hold a separate “content flow”. Try clicking just outside the frame border. The cursor should appear somewhere on the page, within “page level” text. Possibly just outside the frame border. If you didn’t insert other text than what you have in your frame, the cursor will be at the start of the page (usually top left).

Frames are good for “offset text” (like comments and inserts). For adding borders to running text, it is better to use the borders tab in paragraph formatting (preferably by way of a paragraph style).

How you did it? Describing in detail your steps is essential for a good question.
