Performance Problem with big xls

Hi,

I have performance problems with big xls(2MB - 3MB) in many pcs (I tested with OS - Ubuntu 11,12 or 13 , LibreOffice 3 or 4)
When I open a sheet libreoffice hangs about 30 seconds, then when I move over the cells it hangs about 15 seconds and is imposible work with.

I can send a xls example if you wish.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Fernando, please share a sample file. (Remember avoid any private information, it will be public).

I frequently opening 8 to 15 MB xls files without any problem. Currently using ubuntu 13.04 and LO packed with it (version 4.0.2). Laptop Acer Travelmate, i3 processor with 2GB RAM.

Thanks for reply.
Here you can get a sample file:

it is a file generated from a test database you can downlad it as xlsx and then open with LibreOffice.
I have a AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ × 2 with 4GB RAM.

Hi Fernando, no problem with your file, open immediately and no delay working with it (LibreOffice 4.0.5.2 Windows7). Have you try resetting the user profile, sometimes solve strange issues. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile.

@Fernando your sample file opened instantly. No delay no wait (LibreOffice 4.0.2 on Ubuntu 13.04). And I agree with @mariosv to reset your user profile.

I tested this file with many machines in my work place(they haven’t a special video card, only onboard video). Theese machines have Ubuntu 12 or 13 and libre office 3 or 4. The only way to work with is installing a virtual machine with Windows and Excel. I dont think that this is a profile problem because we often reinstall the SO. Please could you test it in another machine?

I knew that LO 3 in Ubuntu 12 has some problem opening .xlsx files. The best way to solve is to reinstall Libre Office directly from ppa, IMO. Some machines on my workplace are using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and they are all installing Libre Office 4 from ppa. They didn’t have any problem opening your sample file.

sometimes opens quicly but when I move the cursor with the arrows is very slow. @Paijo did they move the cursor down?

Do you have conditional formatting in it?

The last two columns on sample file contain multiple line text. “Dump input” has 1139 characters and “dump output” 419 or more characters. It slowing down the scrolling with keyboard arrow up/down key but not severe. I can scroll 15 rows per second (average).

@Paijo I couldn’t scroll down 15 rows per second, neither scroll right. I will upload a video to show how slow is it(in many computers). @mariosv I think that there is no conditional formatting in the sheet but I will ask to a partner to confirm.

@mariosv confirmed, there is not a conditional formatting in the document.
