Can We Prevent Editing Of A Writer Document?

I keep accidentally editing old documents.

Is there some way to prevent editing on them so’s I can open them but can’t edit them without specifically removing the restriction? And adding/removing the restriction quite quite and easy and trouble free - I mean not a question of supplying passwords that one might forget, etc.

Depending on the operating system, I would transfer the old files to a separate folder and set up the folder for “read only”.

Or alternatively set the “read-only” filesystem attribute on file level, if the files need to stay on their places, regardless of their “read-only” state.

Hello,

if you don’t require any additional security and just want prevent from changing files by accident, then:
File -> Properties -> Tab: Security -> [x] Open file read-only may be sufficient for your use case. If you change your mind and want to add additional content to your file just Edit -> [x] Edit Mode will allow to do so.

Hope that helps.

that’s perfect - if I can switch it off. I just tried it out and it went on perfectly and then I couldn’t get it off. googled a bit and a number of other people have that same problem. No more time tonight… must go…
