when I enter an email address into a cell, it immediately becomes a hyperlink and can’t be accessed with the normal editing commands.
You can turn off the URL recognition so this doesn’t happen via Tools | AutoCorrect Options; click on the Options tab and uncheck URL Recognition.
To clear the formatting on cells that already have the URL formatting, select the cell(s) and press Ctrl + M
You can select a contiguous range of cells with Shift + Click, or a non-contiguous range with Ctrl + Click.
