adding image sub documents into the master document

I am setting up a book that has story chapters and image chapters using a master document. The text documents look fine as well as the image documents unless the previous text document has less than half a page of text on the last page. If it has less than half a page the image document joins the last page of the text document. The image sub documents have no text, just one image centered on the page, to entire page, anchored to a character.

Subdocuments are treated just the same as if their contents were input directly into the master. This means, if a subdocument does not start with a page break, it will be concatenated with the current text flow.

To fix the issue, you can:

  • either add a manual page break in every image subdocuments,

  • or add a Text part between two included subdocuments

The Navigator in Master View shows you the list and order of included subdocumnts. Click on one of them, then right-click or push the Insert button in the tool bar (4th from left) and select Text in the popup menu to insert a “text” part before it.

If needed double-click on Text or righ-click and Edit to go to the designated part.

Since the goal of this separating part is only to insert a pagebreak, create a paragraph style with font size 2pt (the minimum possible size), no spacing before nor after, and page break before. With such a paragraph style, you can quickly format all your separating parts.

Thanks ajilittoz, I will give this a try and get back to you. Thanks so much.

Well I have been successful on two image documents so far (thank you!!!) but I am not sure what combination of things I have done is the right path so I keep trying combinations of things on the rest so far. Doh! I am hit and miss. Trying to get the right path down. I have tried page break on the first image of a subdocument with five images but I can’t see any dotted page break line when I am done. For image do I go to “paragraph styles” illustration and then down to text body? Or do I just check the box for page break at beginning of doc? I have also been adding “text” in between documents also but maybe I need to do both procedures or only one? Something frustrating is when I designate text body to 2 pt font the text body, it also transfers to the font in paragraph styles and get so small I don’t know where it is for the next edit.

When I suggested the 2 pt-paragraph, I wrote “create a [new] paragraph style” to avoid changing existing paragraphs (Text Body) to 2 pt too. When you work on a “complex” document, never direct format it. Always use styles.

OK, I figured it out. I finally got a page break by going to the last page of the text subdocument, before the following image subdocument and right clicking to edit paragraph and checking box for page break and applying at end of text document. This was the first suggestion above but I couldn’t seem to connect the dots before to make it work. Now I just have to find a way to clear all the bad mistakes I made before on the master document. Ouch.
