how to download libreoffice to a Microsoft machine

I’ve been using LO under LiNUX/Ubuntu. Recently I’ve acquired a MS10 machine, Can I simply download the latest LO onto this machine? And how can I communicate between the Ubuntu and MS?

Under Windows 10, you perform 2 tasks: downloading the right installer files to your machine, and then install them. You obtain the installer files from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ The first file obviously is the LO suite itself, and it’ll have a file name like LibreOffice_6.4.0_Win_x64.msi. Make sure you get the 64-bit version(“x64”) if your Windows 10 is 64-bit (and 32-bit/“x86” otherwise). Also see that you get this file in the right language for you (e.g. British English, en-GB) for ease of installation. A second installer file, which is optional, is for off-line help. Again you need the right version to match your Windows and language, e.g. LibreOffice_6.4.0_Win_x64_helppack_en-GB.msi.
Installing is a matter of doubleclicking the .MSI packages, and accepting the dialogue that says alterations will be made to your Windows machine (User Account Control).

Microsoft Windows and Ubuntu could conceivably exchange files in a number of ways, and I can’t say which is best for you. You could create a file share on one of the machines, and connect the other to it (SMB/CIFS file sharing); you could create a web site with WebDAV so you could upload and download files from there; you could connect both machines to a cloud service like Nextcloud, Box or Dropbox. Nextcloud is something you could install on a Linux server yourself…

I assume your Windows and Ubuntu installations are on separate partitions of the same or different hard drives. Be aware that Ubuntu can see and access the Windows partition. I regularly transfer files (usually server logs) from Ubuntu to a Windows folder. And I sometimes copy data files from Windows to my Ubuntu file system. Open the file manager in Ubuntu and click on “Other Locations”. The Windows partition should appear (though the name might be obscure). Double click on it to see folders in the Windows file system. Just be careful not to damage anything in Windows.

On the other hand, my Windows 7 installation seems unable to see my Ubuntu files. Win 10 might be different.
