Smooth mouse scrolling in Calc

Is there any option in LibreOffice Calc to enable smooth scroll instead of jumping from cell to cell?

There is a similar problem with Microsoft Excel Smooth mouse scrolling in Excel - Microsoft Community

There’s a ticket since 2011.
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org//show_bug.cgi?id=34689

This is the biggest painpoint in Calc. It’s great for small cells, but in business, people misuse spreadseets fo formatting of documents.

Another use case is opening a CSV which has some really long values. Or a JDBC connection with BLOBs. And many more… .

I will send a donation to see if that helps bring the attention to this

No.

LIBRE: Please fix the scrolling issue for trackpads such as on MacBook laptops. The solution I propose is that this bug be fixed. Stop blaming the users and telling us to adjust our trackpad settings, etc. This problem does not happen in any other program, including other spreadsheets. Scrolling is so fast and sensitive on MacOS as to make Calc 7.1.2.2 unusable. Plus it crashes. Created an account just to say this. So frustrating and extra frustrating to see the same problem has been around for many years. How much will it cost to fix this, Libre? Have a GoFundMe for this issue and people will pay your dev team to issue a fix. I know I would. What is the cause? Is Apple sabotaging Libre Office in some way?

Also, LO.org web forum team, please cool it with the reCAPTCHA junk. I already authenticated and don’t want to have to click a bunch of slowly appearing tractors now! Grr.

@XenoXeno: please read this site rules (available on the homepage). Feature requests and bug reports are off-topic here, and you are addressing your words to fellow users.

You have a need? Then it’s up to you to create things like GoFundMe, find an interested developer, or hire one (e.g., with help from professional support).

You live in a real world. Please cool it with the reality, because spammers are also authenticated, and they also don’t want to … . When you have posted several messages, the system stops to ask it.

Thank you for the reply, Mike. Can you help me understand this a bit better? The professional support page says “The Document Foundation does not provide professional support services for LibreOffice.” Can certified developers on that page make changes to Libre Office code to get the scrolling issue fixed?

For the reCAPTCHA, I understand somewhat, and I’m not asking to remove reCAPTCHA, but after the initial authentication, it seems like it shouldn’t be needed for each post, or at least that the number of things we have to click could be lowered without threat of more spam. There is a setting that just allows one click of a checkbox, for example. Does that not work as well to stop spam? Thanks again. [Update: this time there was no reCAPTCHA required to post, so if you fixed that, thanks much!]

Certified developers can make changes to LibreOffice code.

Unfortunately no; and likely it is not required to post comments. I suppose that captcha it required for first ~5 normal posts (questions and answers). I don’t think the policy will change, since authentication does not tell the nature/intentions of the poster; only knowing that several posts were legitimate (not spam), the system supposes that it’s not an automatic spamming bot.

According to all the accesible internet community, the answer is no, unfortunately. BUT, you can help yourself by simply using the cells differently, so that you get the illusion of the functionality you are seeking for. This is the improvisation:

  1. Resize all cells to some reasonably sized “smallest” unit (make atoms)
  2. Merge cells, instead of resizing them, to get bigger cells
  3. If you need extra space in the middle of the document, insert more rows and columns instead of resizing the existing ones

I hope this will help you, as it helped me.

Can we expand on that idea? I found

  1. putting gaps, or not putting gaps allows me to jump quickly to a new section with ctrl.
    Another suggestion is
  2. using SPLIT WINDOW to reduce scrolling
    and
  3. Use a mouse wheel that clicks instead of a touchpad. The move to the mouse is slower than the touchpad though…

This would be a workaround solution to program in:

Add a function to allow setting a hotkey to scroll up and down, left/left.

At the moment if I want to keep my selected cell I have to use the touchpad.
