How do I number pages for my manuscript

I am writing a book. Try as I may I am unable to number the pages. How do I do that? Please dumb it down because I am not computer savvy. Thanks so much

Usually page numbers are inserted in headers or footers.

Headers and footers are owned by page styles. They are not enabled by default.

According to your question wording, I assume your book presently uses only one page style called Default Style. This means it is made of a single part (no distinction between cover, TOC and content).

Format>Page will open the current page style configuration dialog. Go to Header or Footer tab to activate it.

When done, I recommend you View>Text Boundaries and View>Formatting Marks so that you can immediately spot the various components of the page.

Put the cursor in the header or footer (notice how the text boundary marker changes to show the active component of the page). Insert>Field>Page Number.

Your book is likely to have several parts with different numbering requirements. You need to assign independent page styles to these parts. I won’t elaborate on this here. Search the site since the question has already been asked frequently.

Also, read the Writer Guide to learn about styles.
