how do I drag a cell or bunch of cells to another row or column?

Of course, I suppose I can just copy the cells and delete the original ones. I am using Version: 6.4.2.2 for Mac

Hello,

LibreOffice Help - Moving Cells by Drag-and-Drop provides the required information.

Thanks for your response to my query. The material you cited does not work with the version I have for a Mac. It assumes you can drag and drop a cell or group of cells by just clicking on them and dragging. You can drag a group of cells, but not a single cell. The insert mode does not work at all. .

It works fine for a single cell, too, given you select it the same way you select a group of cells. Namely, (using a mouse) you press left mouse button on the cell, then drag mouse over another cell, then return mouse to original cell, then release the left button. Or with the cell focused, you do Shift+ArrowDown then Shift+ArrowUp.

Using an Apple mouse, Clicking Control after selecting a group of cells, keeping the muse engaged, opens a menu with an insert option. Clicking Option moves the selected column as you drag it. Control click on a single cell opens a menu that lets you move the cell, bunch of cells or the column right or the cella down.

Not exactly what I wanted, but it helps some.
