PDF file scaled down when "Insert... Image" used in Draw

I have a PDF file of a diagram that has been drawn 1:1 on A4 paper, including a ruler which is used to check it’s correctly sized when printed out.

If I insert this PDF into a Draw document (using Insert… Image), it is scaled down on import by about 15%.

If I convert the PDF to a .png raster version beforehand, then it is correctly sized when inserted into Draw.

Why is Draw resizing the PDF version? And is there any way to prevent this happening.

Both PDF and PNG are scaled down in my testing to fit into margins. Both don’t scale when page margins are set to 0 in Page->Properties menu. Tested with default A4 page in Draw with Version: 6.4.3.1 (x64)

Also tested that using A1 page (where available page size is much larger than required by the images), both PNG and PDF are imported to identical size, and drawing a line over the ruler gives correct resulting line length matching the ruler (25 cm).

I’ve just tried setting margin to 0 for an A4 page, and it’s had no effect. The two files come in at different sizes - PDF scaled down, PNG correct. Using A0 paper size also makes no difference.

I’ll download 6.4.2 and see if that makes any difference, and will report back.

It’d be useful if someone with a Mac could confirm or refute Mike’s experiences.

6.4.2 makes no difference. If I open the PDF file, it comes in at the correct size. If I insert it as an image, then it’s scaled down.

Is there perhaps something in LibreOffice Draw that’s misusing the MediaBox dimensions of the PDF to work out what size it should be when imported? The PDF’s MediaBox dimensions are 595 x 842 which is 8.26" x 11.69" at 72ppi. It’s being imported at a size of 6.15" x 8.7" which would equate to 96.78ppi.

I wonder if it’s a Mac-only issue. Here’s my screencapture video, showing the problem plus another oddness in that if I set the same PDF to be the page’s Background Image then it comes in at the correct size.

Please file a bug report. Of course, OS-specific bugs are possible.

(Using “Set Background Image” does not show anything, because in this case, stretch mode is used for the background, thus even if it was imported scaled down, it would be then stretched.)
