Opening an Excel sheet caused a "too large" message

I downloaded LebreOffice today with the hope I could replace Microsoft Office, and so far I’m very impressed!
I’ve opened 3 Excel sheets and then saved them in the ODF format. The first Excel sheet had 4500 rows and they all came in just fine. The second sheet had 3600 rows, but in the open I got a message that that was too many, but in fact it took them all. What was that message all about? By the way, the look and feel is very refreshing!

What is the exact content of the error message?

Excel and Calc have the same max limit for rows. In Excel you can have more columns, and IIRC you can also have more data/more complex formulas in a single cell. Does the message specify “rows”?

Likely your sheet contained something (even simply formatting or a space character) in one of cells in columns above 1024 (after AMJ) which is currently the upper limit for LibreOffice Calc (Excel handles up to 16K columns).
