Why Libre Impress is SLOW?

I used PowerPoint on my laptop for work. Now I have switched to LibreOffice. I do a similar kind of work in IMPRESS that I used to do in PowerPoint. However, I feel the overall performance is considerably slow. It is not that there is a lot of animation or so; rather, I avoid animation.
Mainly, saving the file is a prolonged process. Slide show response lags a lot. For example, when I go forward with slides, it’s okay, but doing back & forth during a presentation is horrible.
It is not a complaint, just a concern because I enjoy using it and would like to keep it that way. So, if things get a little more smooth, it will be delightful. Yet, thanks for providing such a powerful tool in free of cost.

What’s your LibreOffice version?, please edit you question and copy the information from Menu/Hellp/About LibreOffice.

I am experiencing the same type of issue. Impress is so slow I had to stop using it. I have moved back to powerpoint until I determine a way to resolve the speed issues. –

Slide show is unusable, particularly if there are slide transitions. –

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. –

@Bittu, in which file format do you save your presentation?

If you want to work mainly with LibreOffice you should save your presentation in ODF format (Impress = ODP).

I’m having the same issue. I’m testing with a project that has just two slides. An empty one and another one with a single 500Kb .png figure. It takes a second or more to transition to the slide with the figure in it. It is frustrating. I used impress in the past, in presentations with a lot of slides and figures, and never had such an issue.

Just tried a test of Impress. The default slide transition time is 2 seconds. In the side panel the transition time can be adjusted, the box there scrolls to a minimum of 1 sec, after that you have to click and key in lesser amounts of time.

Update on my previous comment: using .svg instead of .png worked. I have no idea why though.

Please have a look at the discussion in the following page. That describes the problem in great detail.
