sum at bottom in Calc not correct

sum at bottom of screen in Calc is not correct if cells are individually selected using CTRL+mouseclicke

Let me guess: You manually set an explicit horizontal alignment for your column?
Switch this off (by a second click on the respective icon). Based on the default horizontal alignment Calc will show you which cells have text (lef aligned) and which have numbers (right aligned).

all the cells selected are numbers none are text Dunno where expl horiz alignment is

just put a few numbers on a sheet and try it

If this was meant as an invitation: Yes, I use the tool rather frequently, and it worked correctly for for a long time an currently in V 6.4.3 it also works as expected.
Did you in turn also test witth the formula =SUM(myfirtsCellRef; mySecondCellRef; ...) referencing exactly the same cells you selected when you looked at the status bar to get the SUM?

Quoting @riks: “Dunno where expl horiz alignment is”
Well, then it’s time to learn about.
You can select a column and then (e.g.) click on one of the icons (group of 3) in the Format ToolBar showing short (grey) lines. The icon where all these lines of differeb´nt length start left (aligned) can be used by cliking to apply left alignment to the selection - or to switch it off if it was set in advance), …

May be you should also activate Count and CountA on the status bar to get the point.

I just take a column of numbers, and select a few at random using the CTRL+Mouse click. The functions in the status bar only show for the first number selected. If I select several adjacent numbers by dragging the mouse it works fine

ok I’m installing the latest version. Mine goes back a bit. I’ll let you know

I installed the latest version 6.3.5.2. and it has the same issue Just make a column of numbers and try selecting a few using CTRL + mouseclick and you will see

Please provide (upload using clip sdymbol when editing your question) a file with those few numbers in a column and try the same thing using LibreOffice in Safe Mode (Help -> Restart in Safe Mode....) and check once more.

ahh I just noticed if I select the numbers the Sum at the bottom DOES update after I let go of the CTRL button. Sorry my bad but I don’t believe it worked that way in Excel. I’m good. Thanks for the help

Some of the cells you want to get shown the SUM for are containing text.
The SUM shown in the status bar is ignoring text whether it is looking like a number or not.

If so, see this FAQ.
