Can I set up Writer in such a way, that modifying text on a page does not shift text on all subsequent pages?

I am writing a number of letters.

Each letter starts on a new page.

Each letter is less than a page, so it doesn’t spill over into a next page.

I need to be able to add and remove lines and paragraphs of a letter without that shifting all the subsequent letters, without me having to constantly adjust blank space between letters.

Can I do that?

Thank you.

Would you, by chance, space your letters with empty paragraphs? relying then on visual feedback to manually position them.

The feature to skip to next page is called a … page break!

You can insert one manually with Ctrl+Enter. Of course, remove the empty paragraphs after the last real one in the letter.

By the way, View>Formatting Marks allows you to see all the formatting codes in your document. The visual clues don’t print, so you can have this option always enabled. Very handy to solve formatting issues.

The page break can even be automated. I assume your letters have some systematic structure: they always start with the same type of data, e.g. a date paragraph, an address, … This data should be tagged with a paragraph style to distinguish them from each other…

A paragraph style may define a formatting so that these data are visually put apart from each other: with spacing above or after (quite neutral and universal), indent, another font face or weight, colour, etc.

Formatting may be the same for various styles but the important point is your paragraphs are semantically marked up.

If your letters always start with a specific type of data, the corresponding paragraph style may contain a “page break before” which will be automatically applied when you mark the paragraph.

There are many other features in styles. I recommend you read the Writer Guide or at least the built-in help to get an idea of what can be done.

That. I’ve been using Office for the past 25 years. Have always been separating pages using blank lines, like an idiot. Page break. SMH. Thank you.

Be kind enough to tick the answer if it solves the problem.

Please avoid abbreviations (SMH?? = the famous late Swiss watchmaking group?), they are culture, country and language dependent and, thus, not automatically understood.
